Hair length should be about 1/4 of an inch. If you are a visual person-- imagine the length of a grain of white rice. (but NOT wild rice...)
Trimming is helpful and more hygienic to do at home. So...if you look down and feel a bit like Jane of the Jungle, it is probably time to get out the shears.
Exfoliating the day before your appointment for any body wax (excluding the face) helps deter ingrown hairs and aid in quick removal.
Although we are skincare experts,and not doctors, we recommend the use of Ibuprofen for those of you who are worried about the potentially painful aspect of waxing. You can also purchase No Scream Cream; a topical numbing cream that needs to be applied 35-45 minutes prior to your appointment.
Pregnant and menstruating women can be waxed, but bare in mind you will be slightly more sensitive.
Skin can be sensitive, so postpone exfoliating for 3 to 4 days. After that, we recommend exfoliating 3 to 5 times per week, with a loofah or light scrub.
Some suggested remedies for unrelenting ingrown hairs: Witch Hazel (especially good for sensitive skin), Clearasil cleansing pads (with salicylic acid works great, but is not to be used by folks who are allergic to aspirin), and Tend Skin also works great for stubborn hairs.
- If you are using Retinol products on the face. (i.e.. Retin A, Renova etc.)
- If you are currently using Acutane.
- Any kind of sun or laser burn on the area to be waxed.
- If you have an STD.
